Elon Musk Threatens to Defeat Republicans Supporting Trump's Spending Bill

Elon Musk vows to use his wealth to fund primary challengers against Republicans who vote for Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill', which he opposes due to increased debt and reduced renewable energy subsidies.

Elon Musk has renewed his opposition to President Donald Trump's major spending bill, threatening to fund primary challengers against Republicans who support it. In a post on X, Musk declared: "Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame. And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth."

Musk's America PAC, which channeled around $240 million in political spending last year, could potentially bankroll challengers across the country. The tech billionaire objects to the bill's increase of the debt ceiling and elimination of federal subsidies for renewable energy projects.

This latest threat comes just hours before a crucial Senate vote on the bill. Musk called the legislation "utterly insane" over the weekend, criticizing its potential to add trillions to the deficit. His statement represents his strongest political move yet against Republicans backing the bill.

While a version passed the House in May, it will need to clear that chamber again before potentially reaching Trump's desk by July 4th. Musk's intervention adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious piece of legislation.
