Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political party called the 'America Party' amid an ongoing feud with President Donald Trump.

Musk declared the party's formation on his social media platform X, stating "Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom." He indicated the party would initially focus on winning key Senate and House seats that could serve as deciding votes on contentious legislation, given the narrow margins in Congress.

The move comes as Musk has been sharply critical of Trump's recently signed spending bill, which Musk has characterized as a form of "debt slavery." Musk argued the bill could add over $3 trillion to the national debt.

In response, Trump blasted Musk on social media, saying he had gone "completely off the rails" and implying Musk was angry about the bill eliminating electric vehicle incentives. The public spat has led to a dramatic falling out between the two, with Trump even suggesting looking into possibly deporting Musk, a South African immigrant.

Musk's announcement followed a July 4th poll he conducted on X asking users if they wanted "independence" from the two-party system, with 65% of 1.25 million participants voting yes.

The creation of the America Party and Musk's increased political activity have added uncertainty for Tesla, with some Wall Street analysts expressing concern it could distract from the company's business goals if Musk doesn't refocus. The ongoing drama has coincided with volatile times for Tesla stock.

While Musk said the party may consider backing a presidential candidate in the future, for now its main focus will be on Congressional races over the next 12 months. The move represents a significant escalation of Musk's political ambitions and his conflict with the current administration.
